on 09 January 2012.

Seven senior staff members of the Palestinian Environment Quality Authority (EQA) visited Vienna, Austria, for a four-day study visit to the Austrian Environment Agency and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management (19-22 December 2011). Through this study visit the Horizon 2020 Capacity Building/Mediterranean Environment Programme (CB/MEP) addressed the EQA’s request to strengthen its capacity in environmental management issues.

The visit therefore included in depth presentation and analysis of various Environmental Management Systems applied in Austrian public institutions (EU Eco-management and audit scheme - EMAS III regulation including EMAS global and ISO 14001), legal, institutional and technical aspects of Environmental Management tools, but also the Austrian experience in data reliability and management. On the occasion of the visit, the EQA staff members also visited a construction company, an incineration plant and a waste treatment plant.

The study visit was organised by the Austrian Environment Agency which is a consortium member of the project.
